Manga Covers

I chose manga covers as my next subject matter because I was drawn to the designs and wanted to see how loose I could get (especially with the text elements) while still being recognizable.

These paintings were done in my sketchbook and I found myself loving my watercolor sketchbook because it reminds me to paint for fun. It takes the pressure off of having to make a 'masterpiece.' There is a weird irony in that the paintings I've been happiest with, take the least amount of effort. It's like most people would feel more liberated singing in the shower vs. singing on a stage performance. These paintings are definitely shower songs.
