the “introductions” series REPRESENTs OPENING SEQUENCES OF VARIOUS ICONIC ANIME. THESE PAINTINGS FEATURE, COLLAGE-LIKE FEATURES, VIBRANT HARMONIC COLORS, AND EXPRESSIVE ENERGY.

“Departure” is the fifth installment in my “Introductions” painting series. Departure is the most technically ambitious painting in this series to date. The Hunter X Hunter title at the bottom, the Gell-pen grid pattern sections, and the symbols within them were a challenge to meticulously draft by hand. Some fun features to find within this composition are: Gon hooking Leorio with his fishing pole, a tiny Netero perched atop an electrical pole, and Illumi and Hisoka looming over Killua and Gon running towards Heavens Arena. I went with a more vibrant and adventurous color palette to suit the spirit of the intro song and anime as a whole.
