“Battlecry” is the first installment in my “Introductions” painting series. I have always held Samurai Champloo near and dear as one of my favorite anime of all time, so it was only natural that it kicked off the “Introductions” series. To me, the music, imagery, and overall energy of this masterpiece has been a constant source of inspiration to my work. “Champloo” (Champuru) is an Okinawan word meaning “mixed up.” This is exactly the approach I took to draft this painting, by mixing up the various intro references into one giant hodgepodge of organized chaos.
